The truth about squirting: fact or fiction?

By Janna, 23.09.2024

Squirting: it remains a mysterious phenomenon that regularly causes quite a stir in the bedroom and on Internet fora. Is it real? And if so, what is it exactly?

Wat exactly is squirting?

Squirting, also known as female ejaculation, is the emission of a fluid from the urethra during or just before an orgasm. This fluid can vary from a few drops to a good amount of magic potion. However, it’s source and composition have been subject of discussion for quite some time. Some consider it a mystic wonder, while others think it’s simply urine. As is often the case, the truth lies somewhere in between.

Facts vs. fables

Fable: squirting is the same as peeing.

Even though the fluid does come out of the urethra when squirting, it’s not the same as peeing. Research has shown that squirting fluid may contain traces of urine, but it also contains other components such as PSA (prostate-specific antigen), which is also found in male ejaculation. So squirting is a unique phenomenon which, although connected to the urinary system, isn’t simply peeing.

Fable: all women can squirt, they only have to know how

This is one of the most outdated fables. Not all women can squirt, and that’s okay. Just as each body is unique, so are sexual experiences. The ability to squirt depends on different factors, among which are anatomy, stimulation and mental state. So, it’s not a matter of “learning the right trick”, but rather of discovering your body and pleasure.

The role of the G-spot

Many people associate squirting with G-spot stimulation. The G-spot, a sensitive spot on the front wall of the vagina, can bring some women intense orgasms, sometimes accompanied by squirting. But not all G-spot stimulation leads to squirting, and not all women experience the G-spot in the same way. For some it’s the key to ultimate pleasure, while it’s just another erogenous zone for others.

Is squirting the holy grail of sexual experiences?

Squirting is often pictured as the ultimate sexual climax, which doesn’t do justice to the diversity of sexual experiences. For some women it’s a great bonus, while others never experience it and still have amazing sex. Sexual pleasure is personal and multifaceted, and it’s better to focus on what gives you and your partner pleasure, instead of pursuing a specific result.
