The Best Way to Improve Your Sex Life

By Rebecca, 26.08.2019

There is good news and then there is more good news!

According to a new study in the Journal of Sex & Marital Therapy, the best way to improve your sex life is by communicating with your partner. It doesn’t have to do with any fancy bedroom tips or tricks, or any form of “spicing things up.” The best way to improve your sex life, it to simply be comfortable communicating with your partner(s).

That’s the first part of the good news! The second part is that it does not have to be verbal communication. If you feel awkward telling your partner(s) what you like and don’t like, the research in this study showed that non-verbal communication was just as beneficial.

For this research, 398 people were surveyed between the ages of 18 and 55. These people were asked questions about their sex life and communication. This included questions like how often they communicate during sex, how often their partner communicates during sex, and whether it is verbal or non-verbal communication. The people in the study were also asked how happy they consider themselves to be with their relationship and sex life

The results of the study indicated that the “happiest” and “most satisfied” couples were the ones that communicate during sex – and felt comfortable with communicating. The type of communication did not make a difference, it was more about letting your partner know your desires and needs – regardless if that is done with a moan or with a conversation.

The take home message is that is it more important to be consistent, comfortable and satisfied with your type of communication method, rather than focusing on a particular communication style.

Ways to Improve Communication:

  1. Talk to your partner! If you’re not sure where to start, send your partner a copy of this article and then talk about it.
  2. Focus on the positives. Instead of saying “I want us to communicate more because I’m not satisfied,” you can say something like “We already have such great chemistry, imagine how good it would be if we added some more moans to help enhance our sex even more.”
  3. Slowly introduce non-verbal communication. Don’t suddenly start screaming and moaning super loudly if you haven’t done that before. Start off with small pleasure-filled moans and build from there in a more natural way.
  4. Suggest some role-playing. If you are acting as someone else, it might be easier to have the confidence to be more communicative.
  5. Do what works for you as a couple! Not everyone will be comfortable with all styles of communication, so find what works for you.
