Positions for small spaces

By Janna, 03.07.2025

Sex is everywhere. Or better yet: it’s possible anywhere. But what if you don’t have a king-size bed, spacious hotel room or luxurious bathtub? Then it comes down to creativity — and a little flexibility. Whether you’re in a holiday cottage, student studio, bathroom stall or narrow kitchen: small spaces are not an obstacle, but an invitation.

Here are the hottest, most fun and surprisingly practical positions for limited square meters.

1. The standing railing

Space needed: a wall or door.
Ideal for: faster sex, the arousal of ‘not being allowed to be somewhere’.

Let your partner lean against the wall/door (or you, of course), one leg slightly lifted for better access. He stands straight, supporting you. This position works well with minimal differences in height and is perfect for steamy quickies.

Pro-tip: if the surface is hard (like a shower wall or toilet door), put something soft between your/their back and wall — a coat or towel works wonders.

2. The kitchen cabinet climber

Space needed: a firm countertop or low cabinet.
Ideal for: spontaneous moments when you get home or in a holiday home.

He stands before the counter, she sits on top of it, legs around his waist. He stands between her legs and determines the pace. Small surface? Big success.

Note: always check whether the surface is stable. We love sex, but not if it ends with a broken cabinet door.

3. The reclining spoon in the dark

Space needed: minimally a bed, sofa bed or even tent mattress.
Ideal for: intimate, gentle sex with minor movement.

You lie side-by-side, he behind his partner. Perfect if you don’t have much room to turn or climb. This position is subtle, cozy and great for morning sex without having to wake up completely.

Extra nice: in this position eye contact isn’t necessary, but touch is everything.

4. Sitting on his lap

Space needed: a chair, stool or closed toilet seat.
Ideal for: slow sex, grinding, or building up tension.

He sits, partner on his lap (face, or back, towards him). Perfect for when standing is too challenging. Also works surprisingly well (half) clothed — for that spicy ‘undressing halfway’-vibe. Do you dare to go wild? Put that chair against a wall to prevent sliding.

5. The reversed elevator

Space needed: doorway or narrow hallway.
Ideal for: firm holding, short but powerful sessions.

The partner turns with their back to him, bends over slightly and leans their hands against the wall or doorframe. He holds their hips and … lets the elevator go up.

Bonus: this position feels extra forbidden if you have to do it quietly — excitement guaranteed.

6. The flat plank

Space needed: a mat, blanket or carpet.
Ideal for: creative sex on the floor.

She lies flat on her stomach, legs slightly spread. He behind her, lying down or kneeling. Deep, slow and full-body contact. And yes, it feels just as intense as it looks.

Why this works: in a small space you often don’t have a bed — but you do have a floor. So use it well!
